Dogs and a beautiful lawn do not make a good pair. Of course, all owners love their pets, but it certainly doesn`t make them happy when their beloved furry friends make a habit from urinating on the beautifully mowed lawn, anytime they are allowed to walk fee. Their urine causes what we call “dog spots” that look like burning marks in the grass. However, with some precautions, the dog and the lawn can coexist in harmony.

Before taking any measures to prevent your dog from urinating in the grass and kill it, you must be sure that the animal is the main culprit. Some lawn diseases may look exactly like dog spots. Once you have determined that the problem is indeed caused by your dog, it is good to know that the spots are caused by the nitrogen in the dog’s urine. You can also give apply the best lawn fertilizer to give it the food it needs to survive pet elimination.  In order to get rid of them, you must consider a systematic approach.

1 – Saturate with water the place where the dog urinates. Water dilutes the nitrogen concentration and the grass will remain intact

2 – Make sure your dog has a diet which doesn`t exceed the recommended amount of protein. Quality food has several easily digestible proteins, so the amount of nitrogen in the urine should remain low

3 – Encourage your dog to drink more water, as this is another way to dilute the amount of nitrogen in the urine.

4 – Train the dog to urinate in a less visible area of the garden.
